7. Race rules

7.1 General rules

  In order to participate in one of the OMU Marathon races, all entrants must:
     - be aged 18 years old or older at the time of the race;
     - be well prepared and fully aware of the specificity, length and duration of the race;
     - have acquired a high degree of self-sufficiency in the mountains to enable them to manage the problems that may arise during the race and in particular to:
         - know how to deal with weather conditions, which can become very difficult, due to the altitude, wind, cold, fog, rain, hail, snow, in addition to night-time conditions, without any outside help;
         - know how to manage, even if located in a remote location, problems resulting from extreme fatigue (physical or mental), digestive problems, muscle or joint pain and other minor ailments.
     - be fully aware that the role of the organizers is not to help a runner overcome the afore mentioned problems and that for such activity in the mountains, personal security depends on each person's ability to adapt to the problems encountered or expected;
     - have the ability to navigate a safe mountain route using the compass, map and field information;
     - be fully aware that previous participation in other races of this kind is useful for the accumulation of mountain experience but is not sufficient;
     - arrive at the start area at least 15 minutes before their designated race start time;
     - know the rules of the race and agree to accept without reservation the terms and conditions of participation.

  The organizers reserve the right to modify elements of courses, time limits and checkpoints locations, details of which will be communicated to competitors as appropriate.
  It is a competitor's responsibility to acquire the necessary visas or permits required to visit Romania - the organizers are unable to assist beyond listing a successful applicant's name on the race entry list.  Please check the visa situation before booking your flights and race entry.

7.2 Safety, risk and conduct

  The route is unstable and unprotected, therefore there is a risk of injury and/ or death from common causes of this type of race. These include, but are not limited to: collisions with vehicles, other vehicles, rocks, trees, other objects, people, falls, slipping, physical strain injuries, storm damage, hail, lightning, storms, fires, drowning, animals, insects, reptiles, bad conditions caused by hypothermia, insolation, dehydration, altitude sickness or physical complications caused by physical effort, etc.
  Competitors accept the dangers associated with participating in this race and take on their own responsibility the risk of participating and competing under the given conditions, as well as the fact that they will be responsible for their own safety actions.

        Due to the extreme distance and remoteness of some parts of the routes, the rescues arrival may take longer than you expect (up to a few hours), so please be very careful in choosing the quality of your clothing/ equipment.  The extreme weather possibilities are why we recommend a foil survival BAG, not just a blanket.

  In view of the above, the organizers recommend that all competitors take their own protective measures, including the provision of insurance against any kind of accident that may occur during the competition (the organizers do not make any arrangements for personal insurance).

  Competitors can not be accompanied by a non-competitor and must:
     - to comply with the rules of movement and conduct in public, as certain sections of the route cross the localities or other public places that are not closed to the traffic;
     - follow the marked path that crosses the particular properties;
     - not drop litter on the route (except the checkpoints);
     - to pass through all checkpoints in the order indicated by the organizers without using shortcuts (additional monitoring points will be set up outside of those officially announced);
     - ensure that their race number has been recorded at each checkpoint;
     - not to push/ obstruct or injure another competitor, volunteer or spectator;
     - to assist and not leave any person in difficulty on the route (competitor, volunteer, spectator) until the arrival of mountain rescuers. Time compensations will be granted to those in this situation;
     - to announce by any means, at the earliest time the race officials about any accident (call the emergency number on the race number, announce the race referees from the checkpoints directly or through another competitor);
     - not to use any vehicle or other means of transport;
     - comply with the instructions of the race marshals;
     - accept the mandatory equipment check at any time of the race (start, checkpoints, finish).
